In October, some places in the United States, and possibly in other countries, make mazes out of the cornfields for some Halloween fun. And they are definitely fun. Sometimes they will be haunted and other times they have games that you can play while in the corn maze. There are also life-sized hedge mazes that you can visit kind of like the movie The Shining or even the movie Labyrinth. It is pretty fun to go to places like this and try and find your way out. It makes it even more festive if you go when it is dark outside. The Halloween-themed corn mazes usually have people dressed up walking around trying to scare you, too. This would be an excellent idea for a date, either with just the two of you or with a group.
What you need for this corn maze date idea:

You can look online to find the nearest corn or hedge maze to you. While they may be seasonable the hedge mazes will most likely be open year-round. The cost is usually very reasonable per person. The one near me is only $10, which is not bad at all.

My experience with this creative date idea:
I have some really good friends that are married who decided to hook me up on a blind date. I am always a bit leery about blind dates because there is so much involved. You don’t know if you are going to be attracted to them if you will click, or have anything in common. A good matchmaker can usually weed out the basics and if he or she knows what you like, they can do a pretty good job, at least with the setup. But the clicking still has to happen.
The plan was that I would show up at my friends’ house and my date would be waiting there with my friends since she knew them already. First, we would eat pizza and play games at my friend’s house, and then afterward we would go to a local corn maze. I had heard a little bit about this girl so I was optimistic, and since my friends are pretty good matchmakers I wasn’t letting any pessimism about the blind date get the best of me.

After arriving at my buddy’s place, I was immediately drawn to the girl. Way cute, gorgeous in fact; I knew I was in trouble. I was quite excited to get to know her. We ate pizza, had a fun time playing games, then we were off to the corn maze.
The corn maze
My date seemed interested in getting to know me; she asked me questions and laughed when I made jokes. That is always a good sign when someone laughs at your jokes. Especially if the jokes aren’t really that funny. We went on a haunted hayride and walked through the corn maze. It was really fun. There was a big crowd there that night. Some people were dressed up, others were there with families, and there were lots of college students who seemed to be on dates. As the night went on, though, I found out that we really didn’t have much in common. I thought she was way cute and it would’ve been fun to keep going out, but the magic just wasn’t there for either of us. Darn.

The farm
Every year there is a farm near me that throws a Fall Festival and they carve a corn maze. It is called Vertuccio Farms. I have been there so many times. It is a great place to take a date or a perfect setting for a group date. In fact, I was just there a few weeks earlier than when I wrote this blog post. We had a big group that met at a restaurant called Applebee’s. It was a good mix of girls and guys. After dinner, we all headed to the farms for some good ole corn maze fun. At the farm they have the following attractions:
- 5 acre Corn Maze
- Mini-golf
- Giant Jump Pad
- Giant Tube Roll
- Mini Zip Line
- Extreme Air Pillow
- Giant Tube Slide
- Mini Hay Maze
- Spider-Web Climb
- Duck Races
- 1 Barrel Train Ride “New and improved” (Open daily)
- Animal Area
- Pumpkin Bowling
- Pallet Maze
Some of the activities listed are only for little kids. We had a ton of fun exploring the corn maze. I told everyone the secret to never getting lost in a maze. Pick one direction and only go that way. For example, only make right turns. If you come to a dead-end retrace your steps then continue, again only making right turns. Or the same will work with the left. We did this and of course, it worked like a charm. Although it didn’t take us through the middle of the maze, no one complained about that.
Other activities
After the maze we found ourselves hanging out at this gigantic inflatable platform that you could run and bounce on. We were able to get a few pretty awesome boomerangs in as well as lots of hay all over us. An itchy mistake for sure.
Next, we tackled the two gigantic slides they had. I preferred the shorter slide. The tall slide which was about 40 feet in the air and had a long ride, but I hurt my back in it. Yes, I am old.
We concluded the fun evening taking their little “train” ride. Which basically consists of a bunch of carts connected together that look like cows. Then they are pulled by a tractor. Good times. The corn maze was definitely the highlight of the evening but it was awesome to have so many other things to do there as well.
