Free Food Date Supermarket with cookie bread and cheese samples

Free Food Date

Something you could do on a Saturday afternoon is what I refer to as the Free Food Date. Basically you drive around to all the stores you know give out free samples. Yeah, it’s simple, but it’s fun, it’s free, and you can bring some competition into the day; make a game out of it and see who can get the most freebies.

A great store to do this free food date idea at is Costco. For those of you who may not be familiar with Costco, Costco is a large warehouse store where you can shop for bulk items which are usually cheaper. You do have to pay membership fees to be able to shop there, so in a sense, it wouldn’t be a totally free date, but you get the idea.

On certain days of the week, they have several sample stations set up around the store. They usually are samples of certain foods they have on sale or just happen to want to promote that day.

The idea is that you would walk around and taste all the samples. And don’t just make one round; go around again and get seconds. If the sample worker gives you a funny look, or asks “Haven’t you gotten one already?” say yes—there’s no need to lie, it just makes it funnier if they’re weirded out. Maybe even throw an accent in there. Or you can say something like, “I couldn’t decide if I want to buy this with just one sample, I better try it again, to make sure.”

There are probably other places that give out free food samples, and if you know about them you could go there as well.

Free Birthday Food

And if it just so happens to be your birthday, there are several places where you can go and they will give you free food. Just do a google search for, “where to get free food on my birthday” and you will find plenty of places. Krispy Kreme used to give you a full dozen classic donuts on your birthday, but now I think they only give you one donut. Denny’s still gives you a free Grand Slam on your birthday. Grimaldi’s will give you 1 free large pizza, which is a great deal. Rodizio’s gives you a buy one get one free dinner which is a $30 value. Although for both of those places you need to sign up for their newsletter. There are several other chains and local places that give out free food on a birthday.

What you need for this free food date:

You don’t need anything special for this idea, just a few locations in mind, then drive over and feast on the free food.

My commentary on this date:

Every time I’m in Costco I think this would be fun to do for a date. I mean, I enjoy doing it alone or with friends and family, so why not with a girl? It would be a totally free date, not to mention it could potentially be really funny, depending on who is working the sample stands, and how many times you try to get freebies from each stand. I have mentioned this idea to a few of my close gal friends and they loved the idea.

Also what I love about Costco is their $1.50 hotdog and a drink meal and the $1 monster churros they sale. That is basically free! So if you aren’t full after eating all the samples you can always get one of those.
