Ghost Town

I ain’t afraid of no ghost town.

Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? Are you’re a fan of adventuring and exploring? Is the person you are dating or married to as well? If so, take a trip to a nearby ghost town. Not only can you learn some really neat historical stuff about the town, but you can also turn it into a pretty creepy event.

And yeah, creeping out your date is absolutely fun and appropriate. These are creative dates, people!

This would be something fun to do around Halloween, although it doesn’t have to be. If you planned it right, you could have a different group of people show up early to the ghost town and hide, making noises and doing all sorts of funny things to scare your date. So this would be a perfect group date idea.

Make up some story of your own about how the place got haunted.  Maybe a convict escaped a nearby prison and was said to be living in the town or something like that. It’s always fun to test just how gullible your date is.

Another idea would be to film the two of you with your smartphone and turn it into one of those cheesy ghost hunter shows. You could bring a real video camera and film your own horror movie, or have a hidden cameraperson recording the date who then surprises you later and watches the video with you.

Depending on where the ghost town is located, you could even turn it into a whole night event by camping out on the outskirts of town, huddled around a small fire, roasting marshmallows and telling scary stories.

What you need for this ghost town date idea:

First, you need to find a ghost town. Probably the best place to find one is here. Kind of a clever name, I know. It’s a pretty comprehensive list and allows you to find exactly what you want close to home or far away.

Next, you need food, which you can pack or buy along the way. Sleeping arrangements should be made beforehand if you’ll be sleeping overnight. And whether at a motel or on the side of the road, you need to have the appropriate gear with you, like sleeping bags, pillows, tents, etc.

If you plan to have other couples with you arrange it accordingly. If you want to have a few couples go up early, make sure they have whatever they need to scare you when you arrive there.

My commentary on this date:

I have researched this idea pretty thoroughly. My fascination with the horror genre and ghost towns, in general, is legit. And it is what served as the inspiration for this date. Doesn’t it just seem like something straight out of a horror movie? Awesome, I know.

I have had plenty of people who’ve done this tell me how scary and fun it was being in a real-life ghost town. If planned correctly and attention is paid to details, this could wind up being one of the most exhilarating dates you’ve been on. The person you’re with will definitely appreciate the time and effort that was put into creating this adventurous activity.

So if you are looking for something clever and exciting to do, plan a trip to the nearest ghost town!
