Look at Christmas Lights

There are a lot of fun things to do during Christmas time. One thing that is enjoyed by many is looking at all the decorated houses. There are some pretty spectacular displays that are put on during Christmas. People’s homes become mountains of lights and eclectic decorations. There always seems to be one neighborhood nearby that has gone full-blown Clark Griswold. So for a fun cheap creative date idea get outside and go look at Christmas Lights.

Take your date around to some of the neighborhoods that have amazing lights. It is a pleasant time of year to be out and enjoying the Christmas spirit. Some major cities will have a big tree all lit up downtown, which would be fun to go see. The Phoenix Zoo has an amazing light display in late November thru early January; maybe the zoo closest to you has one, as well.

Other light displays that might pique your interest include the LDS Temples located in Salt Lake City, UT, St. George, UT, Mesa, AZ, Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA, Washington DC, Hamilton, New Zealand, Sydney, Australia, and Manila, Philippines. These locations all put on spectacular lighting displays during the holidays and usually have Christmas related concerts as well.

Downtown Tempe, AZ has a festival of lights parade every year which is pretty spectacular. I am sure you can find something similar to where you live. Just google it! Google knows everything.

Happy blonde girl smiling in the show and looking at Christmas lights

My experience with this date:

One Holiday season in college my friends and I came up with a pretty nice group date idea. I needed a date so I asked a girl out that I had met through a friend of mine. Her name was Isabel. She was a very fun and flirty girl. I am so down for flirty. She wanted really badly to see a Christmas show that was going on in the city; I had tickets for it so I decided to ask her. I told her to dress semi-formal. It’s always fun to get dressed up once in awhile.

A shuttle ride to downtown to see the lights

When I picked her up at her dorm, I was amazed at how elegant she looked. Simply amazing, I looked forward to an evening with a cute girl on my arm. We met up with my friends and their dates and then drove to a place where we could ride a shuttle into the city.

After a nice ride downtown, we went and saw a live-action Christmas show. The show was like a dance festival, with performers doing dances from their native countries, basically to show how they celebrate Christmas around the world. It was a wonderful spectacle; our eyes were glued to the stage as the dancers performed.

Amazing Christmas lights

Afterward, we went around and looked at the Christmas lights. Most cities put up some kind of light display downtown. It was really fun. I am not completely sure why I didn’t go out with her again, but I tend to think that it was because she didn’t return my calls. I have on occasion taken dates to go look at the amazing light display put on at the Mesa LDS Temple in Arizona; it is one of the most incredible light displays I have ever seen. Another thing that is pretty cool is they also have a 30-minute free Christmas concert pretty much every night in December.

There is a neighborhood about 20 minutes from where I live where every single house on the street and cul-de-sac does a full-blown Christmas light display. One of the houses has a backyard that you tour which has the story of the Nativity. Pretty awesome! I usually try and make it over there each year.
