A really romantic thing to do for a girl is to write a song and sing it to her. Writing songs is no easy task, but it is amazing how the words seem to flow when you have someone you really care about in mind.
I have never met a girl that wouldn’t love it if a guy they really liked wrote a song especially for them. Now, this is not a first date kind of thing. Well, it could be, if you wanted her to think you are a psycho and never speak to you again.
This romantic date idea works well with someone you are already in a relationship with, and who you want to express your feelings in a different way than just words or flowers. And the awesome thing is you don’t have to worry about being a great singer or not, she is going to love it.
What you need for this romantic date idea:
You need nothing more than a computer or pen and paper, and your imagination. It does help if you already enjoy creative writing or have taken creative writing classes in high school or college. But it isn’t necessary. You can even find tutorials online that will help you write your song.
Then all you have to do is plan an evening when you want to surprise her with your song. Somewhere remote and beautiful, like in the mountains or on the beach, would make the date more romantic.

My commentary on this romantic songwriting and singing date idea:
One summer I was playing softball and met this really cool girl. We got along well and started dating, and about four dates in I was hooked. To say I was hooked is an understatement. I wrote a clever song to the tune of Grow Old with You by Adam Sandler. I chose that tune because on one of our dates we were both singing that song.
The song
The song went something like this:
“Close To You” lyrics by Matt Taylor
Based on the tune “Grow Old with You” by Adam Sandler
“I saw you standing there with a softball mitt,
I walked up to you and chatted a bit.
It was so nice being close to you.
I called you up on the telephone,
And as we talked I didn’t feel alone,
It would have been so nice to be close to you.
And then I picked you up and we drove to the beach.
Went rock climbing, til time to eat.
All I wanna do is be close to you.
I’ll think of you, smile at you, and sing you a song,
When you are sad. Hold you, love you, give you
A massage when your muscles feel bad.
Oh, I could be the man who is close to you.
Now it’s getting hard not to think of you,
I hope that we will be together soon.
It would be so nice to be close to you.
I wanna be close to you.”
She loved it, but alas, we didn’t end up dating for very much longer. So it goes sometimes, dang it.
My oldest brother plays the guitar and while dating his girlfriend at the time, he wrote a song for her. He took her to the beach, set out a blanket, then ate food and watched the sunset. Then just as the sun was about to hide its face behind the horizon, he got out his guitar and sang her the song he wrote. She loved it! And why wouldn’t she? Songs are almost guaranteed a good response.

If you are looking to impress that special someone write a song and sing it to her. You will thank me later.
